Description: Received a royal commission in the Royal Engineers and fought in the Boer War. Became a squadron commander in the RFC and did research into ballooning, kiting, wireless telegraphy, photography, meteorology and bomb-dropping. Killed by a grenade while he was on patrol behind German lines. (1876-1918)
