Description: Abstract - Born at Lissadell, County Sligo, Ireland on 4th February, 1868. In 1893 she moved to London to study art and joined the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies. In 1908 she joined Sinn Fein and subsequently founded Fianna Eireann. After the passing of the Qualification of Women Act, she stood as a Sinn Fein candidate and was the only woman successful in the 1918 General Election becoming Minister of Labour. She died in Dublin on 15th July 1927.
